How each pound is spent
In 2025-26, this is how each pound you provide through paying your bill is broken down
60p - Investment work
We will invest £776 million in 2025-6 and £4 billion in our services over the next 5 years – 68% more than we did in 2020-25. This includes £2.5 billion to protect the natural environment.
20p - Day to day maintenance work
The operational cost of providing water and wastewater services, across 27,000km of water main, 36,000km of sewers, 843 sewage treatment works and 69 pumping stations.
16p - Our people
16% of our costs in 2025 will be on our people. We’re recruiting an extra 2,000 too so that we are well equipped not only to deliver this ambitious programme but to continue to deliver an essential service 24/7.
3p - Tax and government
8% of our costs is allocated towards things like our business rates, environmental permits and National Insurance.
1p - For extra support
In 2025-6 we’ll be investing £15 million towards our sector leading social tariffs, aiming to provide financial help to nearly 190,000 of our most vulnerable customers over the next 5 years.
