Abergele Smart Town
Abergele has been chosen to be the Smart Town which will lead the way with discovering new ways to save water.
Evidence shows that significant water shortages are expected by 2050, so taking early action is essential. We are focused on working with the community to explore appealing, practical and evidence-based ways to support water efficiency. Our findings on best practice will shape the implementation of strategies across Wales.

Abergele Water Saving IdeaOur layered approach to Smart Town
Home products
- Trials of a variety of free products have been rolled out. In particular, there has been a focus on aeration technology products which work by mixing air into the water flow to reduce water usage while maintaining the same pressure and flow
Business support
- Many businesses have been offered support, and we are proud to share some have saved up to 1400L per day through our water initiatives
School engagement
- Inspiring the next generation to engage with water literacy through activity boxes, digital learning games, and volunteering
Community engagement
- Collaborations with community groups have shared water efficiency tips whilst promoting our support options for any vulnerable people
Private leakage scheme
- We have helped locate leaks in homes and provided free repairs
We enjoy sharing our work with the town council to keep them up to date with initiatives in the area. You may have already heard about Smart Town from the newsletter.

Your water bill will not be affected by any of our water saving initiatives, however you could end up saving money.
This initiative will help us better understand water usage patterns in your region and help us develop strategies to ensure sustainable water supply for the future as well as better the environment. During this project we will also be supporting the community where we can, which we have already started by making a donation to Abergele in bloom.
